Signs That Alcohol Treatment Is Helping You
While alcohol treatment at a rehab facility might be one of the hardest things you ever go through, how do you know if it is actually working for you? It is one thing to avoid alcohol at an inpatient facility where there are no temptations staring you in the face. Learning to do it once you leave rehab is another thing.
You want to make sure you choose a facility that offers an alcohol treatment plan that has the best chance of helping you reach your goal of sobriety. And of helping you stay sober over the long term.
Here are some things to consider when choosing an alcohol treatment facility:
Ask About Success Rates
You want to make sure that the alcohol treatment facility you attend has a great chance of working for you. One way is to ask about their success rates. Go with an alcohol rehab facility that is able to provide you with their success rates. They should be proud of the numbers of people they have helped achieve sobriety. If a facility does not have any numbers to provide to you that supports its program strength, consider another location.
Correct License and Accreditation
Depending on what state you live in, different alcohol treatment facilities will require specific licenses and accreditation in order to operate. You want to make sure you are opting for a facility that has all of the correct licenses and accreditation, giving you the best chance possible for the alcohol treatment program to work for you. Those facilities operating without the proper licenses and accreditation may not be as qualified to help you get through the rehab program and remain sober once you have finished.
Type of Program
While all alcohol treatment programs should involve counseling and education as part of the program, you will have to decide if you want to attend a 12-step program or a non 12-step program. The 12-step programs treat alcohol addiction as a disease and follow the 12 steps as laid out in Alcoholics Anonymous. However, the non 12-step program does not view alcohol addiction as a disease and uses cognitive behavioral therapy as the main part of its alcohol treatment. In order for you to be successful at alcohol rehab and stay sober, you need to determine what type of alcohol treatment has the best shot at working for you.
After Care
Another way to ensure that alcohol treatment is successful for you is when you opt for a rehab program that offers an after care plan. A big part of your success will be in not relapsing once you leave rehab. After care is essential in preventing relapsing.
Whether or not your alcohol treatment facility offers ongoing counseling, a 24-hour hotline you can call, encourages attending regular meetings, or has set you up with a sponsor, make sure you have an after care plan in place. When you feel tempted to drink, you will be thankful that you have a plan in place to stop you before relapsing.
While there are no guarantees that an alcohol treatment plan is going to work for you, considering the above criteria will give you a good chance at being successful and staying sober.
